ELinOS was developed by SYSGO, headquartered near Mainz, Germany. The first version was launched in 2000 and had immediate success in German-speaking countries. The current version 3.0 is available for all common CPU's and includes graphical configuration tools for embedded Linux targets and a completely Eclipse-based IDE.
The product is already used in many applications such as medical devices, automotive or industrial automation and also in aircraft cockpits. The company is currently working on a product that will allow Linux to be used in applications that need to be certified to standards such as DO-178B or IEC 61508.
"ELinOS was voted Product of the Year in Germany in 2003," explains Kazuo Nakamura, Managing Director of Four Link Systems. "and with its focus on high-value and safety-critical products, we see a growing demand for such solutions in Japan as well."
"In Japan, as in Germany, it's not just the product that counts, but the quality of the engineers responsible for the customer requests," confirms Knut Degen, CEO of SYSGO. "We need a strong partner like Four Link Systems here to adapt the product to the requirements of the Japanese market."
The companies plan to expand their cooperation and establish a joint company in 2005.
