A pre-condition for the development of a system with the capability of high precision was the use of a real-time capable operating system. Due to the lack of functionality of the previously used real-time operating system, the company Stäubli Sargans AG decided to use a Linux-based controller for the first time. SYSGO took care of the system software. They adapted Linux to the controller, provided the basis for application development with the ELinOS development environment, and supported the introduction of the RTAI real-time extension with their know-how.
The result is a machine that automates the weaving preparation process needed for sorting individual weaving threads as well as for colour recognition. The freshly developed machine can be individually configured to customer requirements and will be presented for the first time at the ITMA in autumn 2003.
"Decisive for the success of the project was the professional and quick use of SYSGO in porting it to our hardware platform" explains Dr. Warden, project manager of Stäubli Sargans AG. "Thanks to the cooperation with SYSGO, we were able to concentrate on the further development of our application."
